Welcome to the Site!

July 15, 2010

No, I haven't given up on the site...again, I've just been pretty busy over the last few weeks, and I had to do almost a complete rewrite of this review, because of some data loss.  I could have easily just given up on the review and moved on, but NO!  I finished it, just for you guys.  The Don "The Dragon" Wilson not so classic, Cyber Tracker 2.

June 17, 2010

Don't know if you've been watching the World Cup, but it's been very entertaining.  Not a whole lot of scoring so far, but as things move along and the teams get more comfortable I think that'll change a bit.  Anyway, new review time, here's Terminal Rush, starring Don "The Dragon" Wilson (suprise, suprise) and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper!  Ahhh, yeah.

June 14, 2010

Sorry that I've been gone for a few days, but it's been time for the 2010 World Cup!  As much as I like doing these reviews, the cup games are a little more important, and they just happen to be occurring right when I'd normally be working on the reviews.  But I did get one done for today, here's the review of Cyber Tracker, which includes Richard Norton's first appearance in anything reviewed here.

June 8, 2010

Took a few days off with a nice weekend, but we're back with a review...and it's special.  Not special in a good way, however, as it's officially the worst movie I've ever reviewed for the site.  Yes, even worse than Bloodfist 6:  Ground Zero.  Note to directors/screenwriters:  While I'm sure ripping off The Terminator and Total Recall might seem like a good idea, don't do it. Or you end up with the steaming P.O.S. we have here, Futurekick.  Oh, you better believe it's a Hall of Shame entry.

And for another review today, making up for the piece of crap that I just had to watch, is the suprisingly decent Black Belt.  It's so nice to be able to watch a movie that's pretty good after one that sucks balls.

June 3, 2010

To finish out the Ring of Fire series, here's the loosely-connected final installment Ring of Fire 3:  Lion Strike.  It's not pretty.  You have been warned.

June 1, 2010

Today's installment of Generation Dave, is a movie that I'm sure sat on the shelves of your local Blockbuster for years.  And I say "sat there", because I'm pretty sure it didn't move to often. Or at least it shouldn't have.  Here's Ring of Fire.

Did someone say, "Two for Tuesday"? Well, probably not, but here's another review anyway...Ring of Fire 2:  Blood and Steel, a marked improvement from the original.

May 30, 2010

Another Don Wilson movie? You bet!  I'm just a glutton for punishment, I guess, but this movie is suprisingly good, the HBO original film, Red Sun Rising.

May 27, 2010

Finally the Bloodfist series is done...what happens when you get a new hero, and set the movie 50 years in the future? You get Bloodfist 2050, the last movie in the franchise...for now.

May 26, 2010

As I continue to make my way through the Bloodfist series, here's the review of Bloodfist 7:  Manhunt.  I'm getting towards the end...I'm going to have to come up with something else to review!  Oh, well, I'm sure I'll figure out something...

Oh, wow, bonus review time? Yup, had some extra free time, so here's the review for Bloodfist 8:  Hard Way Out.  I'm almost done with these movies, I promise...

May 25, 2010

Well, I can't say I'm surprised, but one of the Bloodfist movies has finally made the infamous Hall of Shame.  It's Bloodfist 6:  Ground Zero. Read on, if you dare...

May 24, 2010

So, I tried to get this review up Friday, but there simply wasn't time.  Oh well, here it is now, the next movie in the Bloodfist series, Bloodfist 4: Die Trying...believe it or not, it wasn't terrible!

And wait...what's this? I got another one cranked out. Holy Moly!  Here's to make up for no review on Friday, Bloodfist 5:  Human Target.

May 21, 2010

Yeah, I know, no update yesterday, I got a little behind, and it took longer than I was expecting to get the review written.  But here it is, the third entry in the Bloodfish series, Bloodfist 3:  Forced To Fight.

May 19, 2010

Another update? You better believe it!  Here's the review for Bloodfist 2...and it's actually an improvement!

May 18, 2010

Uh...so...it's been awhile!  I'll bet you didn't think I was coming back, did you? Well, I got the itch to try and write some more reviews, so let's see how many I can get cranked out before I get bored again.  Today's update is the "modern classic" Bloodfist!  (Note:  Not responsible for reader's with broken sarcasm meters)

May 1, 2009

Honestly, I think I could cry.  That half finished Liberty City Stories review I talked about yesterday? Gone.  The server ate it somehow.  I'm sure I'll rewrite it at some point, but not right now.  That's just too much work to revisit from scratch right now.  But instead, I revisit the realm of Television!  For the first time since the early days of the site, I present, a review of a tv show.  But not just any tv show, no, here we have the pilot for the cult classic, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.!

April 30, 2009

Ugh...I've really got to spend more time on this site.  I don't want to look back years from now, and say, "Man, what could have been..." Long story short, I've got a review of GTA: Liberty City Stories half in the can, and it's been that way for a week, we'll see if I can finally get up the gusto to finish it.  Also, maybe after that, I think I'm going to switch things up and go back to reviewing a few tv show episodes.  Generally, they'll be shorter and easier to write, so maybe that'll prompt me to update more often.  Cheers!

April 21, 2009

So, rather than sit down and write reviews on the Leisure Suit Larry series, which I just completed again, or one of the the GTA games I have yet to review, I decided to take two weeks off.  Yay for laziness!  Ugh...okay, working on a new review today, we'll see if it actually makes the site by tonight or not.

April 9, 2009

Hah, I bet you thought I was going to be gone for another month after getting those last two reviews up, didn't you.  Well you were wrong! This time, anyway.  So here's that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas review that I mentioned before.  Believe it or not, I've actually been working on it for the last 3 days, it's just such a huge game that it it takes a long review to even scratch the surface.  I'll be back with either another GTA related review, or something entirely different, hopefully sometime tomorrow.

April 6, 2009

Wow, I'm a lazy bum.  Okay, finally finished that Grand Theft Auto 3 review that I promised...oh...a month ago.  I really need to stop goofing off, this page isn't going to create itself.  Once you see the length of the review, I think you'll understand what took so long...or at least that's my excuse...Next will either be Vice City or perhaps a Leisure Suit Larry game, I haven't decided yet.  It won't take a month to get uploaded, however, I promise that.

Update:  Believe or not, I actually buckled down and got another review cranked out.  Here's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Yeah, you better believe it's a Hall of Famer. What's next, a GTA: San Andreas review? Quite possibly...

March 5, 2009

Hey, my website is still here!  Who'd have imagined that?  I figured Go Daddy would have pulled the plug on it awhile ago, due to some sort of server crash or something to that effect.  I suppose maybe I should do something with it to validate spending the money on the site registration?  Nah, see, that would actually make sense...

Seriously though, I think I'm going to get back into this.  Maybe it'll be slow at first, but I think I can at least crank out a review a week.  Or maybe just some topical posts, since I do refer to this as sort of a blog...not sure if I'm pretentious enough for that, though.

Anyway...so review, review, review...what am I going to review first to get things back up and running?  An episode of MacGyver?  I have been watching that a good bit recently...or maybe some more Grand Theft Auto reviews, since that was where I left off?  Either way, something will get posted either late today or early tomorrow.  Enough being lazy and just goofing off, if this site is going to be my legacy, I want it to be something I can be proud of.

May 6, 2008

Holy crap, has it really been over a month since I've put an update on the site?!?  My poor, poor abandoned webpage, that I'm still paying $3.99 a month for.  Anyway, here's a review that I actually had done a month ago, except for the last 2 paragraphs.  Grand Theft Auto 2, specifically the PC version.

April 2, 2008

Today's review is the somewhat classic, Tecmo Super Bowl for the SNES/Genesis.  This one may be a bit controversial with the score I gave it, so check it out if you're curious.

Whoa...another update?!? In the same day?  Zounds!  Here's a review for the original Grand Theft Auto.  I need to play some better games...

March 24, 2008

Okay, I've been working on this one for about a week, here's a game that you probably didn't know existed:  Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball, for the Super Nintendo.

March 17, 2008

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Everyone!  To celebrate, here's a new album review.  For Those About To Rock by AC/DC.

March 7, 2008

I can't believe I just beat the last boss in Chrono Trigger 13 times...but that's what you have to do if you want to see all of the endings.  Fantastic game, but I won't be going back to it anytime soon.  Oh yeah, it made the Hall of Fame, so it was worth it...I think...

February 26, 2008

Well, I've finally done it.  After 13 years, I finally managed to go back and complete Final Fantasy VI, and it was totally worth it.  My favorite game of the series, bar none, despite it's aged graphics and gameplay.  I took a little longer writing the review than what I'd originally planned, but I think it pretty much covers everything.

February 14, 2008

Happy Valentine's Day to all my readers! (Yes, all 3 of you).  Today sees another entry into the GenerationDave Hall of Fame, with the entry of Final Fantasy V.  I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised, as I was expecting a good game, but I think I was looking ahead to the masterpiece that is Final Fantasy VI.  A great game that you should definitely check out, if you're an RPG or Final Fantasy fan.

February 12, 2008

Yes, yes I know, no updates for almost a week.  Sorry, but I've been trying to finish Final Fantasy V so I can get to VI, which is probably my favorite of the series.  Anyway, I do have another music review, the Poison lost classic, Crack a Smile, and you might be surprised at how well it rates.

February 6, 2008

Going back to the musical well, I decided to give Motley Crue another chance, and reviewed the seminal Too Fast For Love.  I'll let you read the review, but it's much better than Girls Girls Girls could ever hope to be.

February 1, 2008

Okay, the Final Fantasy IV is done and up on the games page.  It was a good experience, and it definitely brought back some memories of playing the original SNES version.

January 30, 2008

So, production has basically completely fallen off the map while I've been working my way through Final Fantasy IV.  However, I did get the great idea to at least start back on music reviews while playing the game.  Unfortunately, I picked a bit of a turd in Girls Girls Girls by Motley Crue.  Oh well, at least it's a start.

January 24, 2008

Okay, well, the Art of Fighting review is done and posted.  The controller really didn't help much, as I still couldn't hit special moves that well, but as least now I can say I gave it a proper chance.

January 23, 2008

Well, I was planning on getting a review of the Neo Geo sort-of-classic Art of Fighting up today, but after playing it for about half an hour, I decided it was a reaaaaaallly bad idea to do the review from the standpoint of using a keyboard as a controller.  It doesn't really work when you can't do any special moves...oops.  I'll try and get that going for tomorrow.

January 22, 2008

Okay, so maybe we're not going to hit that 20 review goal for the month, I'm at least going to go for 10 though.  Here's another one to help that out, Final Fantasy III for the original NES, our first NES review on the site.

January 14, 2008

It's nice to be back after a good weekend.  For today's perusal, the 1992 vertical shooter Aero Fighters, the precursor to two sequels that would appear on the Neo Geo.

January 11, 2008

Okay, I did miss a few days there, but it was for a reason.  I was putting all of my time into finishing the original Final Fantasy 2 for a review.  It's nothing earth-shattering, but still worth a look.  20 days for 15 more reviews...don't know if I'll make it, but I'll give it a shot.

January 8, 2008

Reaching back into the archives, here's a 1989 not quite classic from Konami, Crime Fighters.

January 4, 2008

Well as I promised yesterday, here's the review for the Game Boy Advance version of Final Fantasy.  Not sure what's coming next, but it probably won't be until Monday.  Check back then, and we'll see what I come up with...

Update:  Well, I got bored, so here's another one, King of the Monsters for the Neo Geo.  It's not pretty, but I think it's accurate.  Now, just 17 reviews to go for me to make my goal for the month.

January 3, 2008

And we're back with a new year.  I've got the review for Die Hard finished, and it's up in the movies section.  It's also a Hall of Fame inductee!  Well, I say it's finished, I still need to go back and get some screen shots from the movie, hopefully have that done soon, but the rest of the review is there.  Next will be the review of Final Fantasy remake for the Game Boy advance.  Not sure when that will get up, maybe tomorrow or so.  I definitely need to get more active in getting these reviews up, and I think you'll hopefully see some progress on that front.  My goal is to get 20 up this month, but we shall see about that!

December 17, 2007

Just some quick notes about what's been going on over the last week and a half, I have actually been working on some material to put on the site.  Game wise, I've been playing through the remake of Final Fantasy for the Game Boy Advance, and I'll probably have that finished before the holiday.  With RPGs it takes a little longer to do the review because of the extra playtime involved.  Also, I just went through and switched the movie reviews to the newer page format, so they now look like the rest of the site, and I watched all of the Die Hard movies last weekend, so I should hopefully have some of those reviews forthcoming.

December 6, 2007

Well, I meant to get this one up yesterday, to try and streak two reviews in a row together, but writing the review was almost as boring as playing the game.  I should have persevered, but it doesn't matter now.  Lakers vs Celtics and the NBA Playoffs, again for the Sega Genesis.

December 4, 2007

This site can definitely be a labor of love sometimes, and that's why this review took so long to get up.  Streets of Rage 3, for the Sega Genesis.  Oh, and it's officially the 20th video game review on the site!

November 27, 2007

Alright, back from vacation.  I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, I know I sure did.  I would have had this review up yesterday, but the Kevin DuBrow of Quiet Riot had to go and die, and completely screw my day up.  R.I.P. buddy, we'll miss you.  But here it is now, our newest addition to the Hall of Fame, Streets of Rage 2.

November 15, 2007

Sorry for the lack of updates this week, I've been a bit under the weather since Monday.  Anyway, here's another classic Genesis review for your perusal, the great beat 'em up, Streets of Rage.

November 9, 2007

And one more update, before the weekend hits, but it's a good one.  New Hall of Fame inductee Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, an all time classic.

November 6, 2007

Oh, my poor website, how I've forsaken thee.  Halloween was cool though, I had probably the best Halloween I've ever had due to certain goings on.  Anyway, I'm back, and here's a review:   Devil's Playground by Billy Idol.

October 23, 2007

There probably won't be many updates this week, as I'll be busy towards the end of it, but here's one for today at least.  The arcade version of Turbo Outrun.  Could a review be forthcoming for Power Drift as well?  Possibly, but I will warn you in advance, that when I played it the other day...it simply hasn't aged as well as other games.  We shall see, I may not have the heart to tear down what used to be one of my favorite games...

October 19, 2007

One more update before the weekend, the Midway hit Cruis'n USA.  Click to see just how good I thought it was, I dare you.

October 18, 2007

Alright, I've been waiting to do this one for awhile.  Our first Hall of Fame entry in the games category, Final Fight, specifically the arcade version.  If you've never played Final Fight, go play it now and come back.  The review can wait. Oh, and I moved all of the updates/entries previous to September to the archive page here, just to clean up the front page a bit.  Although, reading through some of the old stuff, at one point I apparently wrote reviews for both Cheap Trick's At Budokan, and Grand Theft Auto 3.  I have no idea where they went, as they were written long before the site went live.  Oh well, I guess I'll just rewrite them one of these days...

October 17, 2007

Yes, it's been almost a week since I last filed an update.  I apologize, but I've actually had real work to do recently.  No, really, quit snickering.  Anyway, a true arcade classic, that probably anyone between the ages of 25 and 40 has heard of, Outrun.

October 11, 2007

Been a few days since an update, I know.  Well, here's one you probably weren't expecting.  I wasn't expecting it either, the first time I played it.  One of Capcom's lost CPS-1 games Quiz And Dragons.

October 8, 2007

Alrighty, hope everyone had a good weekend (I know I did).  Today's review is of the album that basically saved Ozzy Osbourne's career.  That album is, No More Tears.

October 5, 2007

We've got another shooter on our hands today, the Aerosmith inspired, somewhat classic/infamous, Revolution X.  I meant to have this one up yesterday, but I got tied up doing other things.  Oh well.

Oh, suprise update just in!  Eh, actually it's nothing to be excited about, unless you like the Hall of Shame.  The 1987 Atari atrocity known as Roadblasters.  Yep, I'm all about destroying fond childhood memories, especially my own!

October 2, 2007

Aaaaaand, we're back after a long weekend.  First up for the week's reviews, the 1989 classic, UN Squadron, which, while still a good game, seems to have not aged that well.  And just as a note, specifically this is the arcade version, which is slightly different from the SNES version.  When I get around to reviewing that, we'll see how they compare.

September 27, 2007

Okay, one last review before the weekend, here's The Simpsons, the 1991 arcade beat 'em up, aka the only decent Simpsons game for about 15 years that somehow annoyingly was never released for home consoles.  Whoever's fault that was....well, I hope they have a really crappy weekend.  So there.

September 25, 2007

And back to the well again.  I promise, I'll at least switch genres after the next video game review, and there will be a movie review forthcoming as well.  But for now, here Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2:  Turtles In Time to tide you over.

September 24, 2007

And the update for the morning is....Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the arcade beat 'em up based on the original cartoon series.  The review for the sequel is coming as well, and a movie review for Bad Santa, with Billy Bob Thornton will probably be coming before the week is out also.

September 21, 2007

And the reviews are up.  The arcade versions of Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2, and the infamous Double Dragon 3 have been analyzed for your reading pleasure.  I know it won't be the last time it happens, but I'm glad there's finally a member of the Hall of Shame, as it makes me feel like I'm actually doing my job by reviewing everything and not just the stuff I like.  Granted, I probably would have never sniffed it had "Double Dragon" not been in the title, but that's another issue entirely...

September 20, 2007

Okay, I was actually "working" on research for a few new reviews, that will hopefully get posted by tomorrow.  No, seriously.  It was work.  Okay, fine, you don't believe me?  Sit down and try to beat the arcade version of Double Dragon 3 sometime.  Yeah...it's a bad one.  Luckily, I also went through the first and second one, so the sting was lessened a bit.  We may have the first Hall of Shame inductee on our hands here.  See, who says I only review things I like?

September 18, 2007

Well, crap, has it been four days since I posted an update?  Oh well, here's a review for "Weird" Al's best album of the last decade Straight Outta Lynwood.

September 14, 2007

The Guitar Hero 2 review for Xbox 360 is up now.  It was supposed to be up yesterday, but I forgot to link it on the games page.  Ooooops.

September 12, 2007

Okay, let's see...it's not noon yet, so I've made good on my promise of getting a new review up in the A.M.  It's amazing what you can do when not having to run after rogue graphics ripping servers all morning!  The new review is here, but I don't want to spoil the surprise, so click it and see.

September 11, 2007

Yes, I'm slacking.  I'll admit it.  I've been distracted a little recently, and work's been busy, but that's no excuse.  I've got a new review almost done, which will hopefully hit tomorrow sometime in the A.M.  There's an outside chance I'll get another one done tomorrow afternoon to try and double up, but don't count on it...

September 6, 2007

Sorry for the lack of updates yesterday, I got hooked on a new webcomic here, that you might want to check out.  I did start on a new review, and today I've finished it.  In the Arms of God by Corrosion of Conformity.  Next will be a classic Alice Cooper album that will hopefully be up tomorrow morning sometime. [Edit]  Actually, surprise, surprise, I got it done today!  Yay!  Here's From The Inside from 1978, by Alice Cooper.

September 4, 2007

Okay, I hope everyone had a good, long weekend like I did.  Nothing better than the first weekend of college football after the long summer months are over.  And yes, I was probably watching football rather than updating the site.  Oops.  Anyway, I noticed some graphic bugs with the new site logo that I squashed, so hopefully all the pages are appearing okay now.  And, we have a new addition the music part of the page, a review of Judas Priest's 2005 release, Angel of Retribution.  Is it any good?  Oh yeah......
